What is Toltrazuril?
Active Ingredients: Toltrazuril
Toltrazuril Oral Solution is an anticoccidial drug that is used to prevent or treat coccidiosis in animals such as chickens, piglets, turkeys, sheep, and cows. It also helps reduce coccidian shedding caused by E. bovis. or E. zuernii. Toltrazuril is sometimes used to treat isosporiasis and hepatozoonosis.
Toltrazuril is an antiprotozoal agent that is a derivative of triazinetrione. It works by causing damage at the cellular level of all stages of Eimeria (coccidia), including E. acervulina, brunetti, maxima, mitis, necatrix and tenella in poultry. It's effective against E. adenoides, galloparonis and meleagridis in turkeys. Toltrazuril also shows activity against schizonts and micro- and macrogametes.
This drug's mode of action involves disrupting cellular processes in all stages of the parasite's life cycle, including schizonts and gametes. It is considered a valuable choice for managing coccidiosis in poultry and livestock, contributing to improved animal health and reduced economic losses in the agriculture industry.

What are the most common animals Toltrazuril Oral Solution is used for?
Toltrazuril Oral Solution is typically used in following types of animals:
- Cattle: Toltrazuril Oral Solution is commonly used in cattle, particularly cows, to manage coccidiosis, a parasitic disease caused by various species of protozoa. Coccidiosis can affect the intestinal tract and lead to diarrhea, weight loss, and reduced growth in cows. Toltrazuril is administered orally to treat and prevent coccidiosis to help control the spread of the parasite.
- Piglets: For the prevention of clinical signs of coccidiosis in neonatal piglets (3 – 5 days old) on farms with a confirmed history of coccidiosis caused by Cystoisospora suis.
- Sheep: This drug is also used in sheep to prevent and treat coccidiosis. Coccidiosis can be a significant concern in sheep, especially in young lambs, and it can lead to diarrhea, dehydration, and even death if left untreated.
- Poultry: In poultry, including chickens and turkeys, Toltrazuril is employed to also combat coccidiosis. Coccidiosis can lead to reduced feed conversion, growth retardation, and increased mortality in poultry. The drug is administered to help control coccidial infections, reduce oocyst shedding, and promote healthier and more productive flocks.
