What is the PRRS Vaccine?
Active Ingredients: Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) Virus
Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) Vaccine is an attenuated viral vaccine used to immunize swine against certain strains of the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) virus. Active vaccination prevents or reduces the severity of infections due to this virus.
Without immunization, PRRS infection may lead to death, reduced growth rate, and decreased quality of meat products, which has significant economic impacts for a farm.
This vaccine is a suitable option for breeding herds and commercial swine farms. Immunity typically lasts about 19 weeks (reproductive disease) and 26 weeks (respiratory disease).
Each dose of this vaccine contains a modified live (attenuated) viral component, which has been freeze-dried and should be mixed and rehydrated before being administered. After administration, the attenuated virus will trigger the animal's immune response, which allows it to develop antibodies against the virus. This helps reduce the likelihood of infection when the animal comes into contact with specific strains of the virus. Advacare Pharma produces this Modified Live (Attenuated) viral vaccine for both the GDr180 and CH-1a strains of the PRRS virus.
