Ingredients

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, also known as vitamin B7 or vitamin H, that plays a role in maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails, as well as in the functioning of the nervous system and liver.

It is an essential nutrient that is necessary for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in the body. It works by helping enzymes to break down these nutrients and convert them into energy that the body can use. Biotin also helps to regulate blood sugar levels by facilitating the breakdown of glucose.

While biotin is found in many foods, such as eggs, nuts, and whole grains, some individuals may have a deficiency in this vitamin due to certain medical conditions or medications. In these cases, biotin supplements may be recommended to help maintain optimal levels of this important nutrient.

Uses

What are Biotin Tablets used for?

How are Biotin Tablets used?

This supplement is to be swallowed with water.

What dose of Biotin should be taken?

The recommended dosage of biotin is 1 tablet or capsule per day, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Do not exceed the stated daily dose. A laxative effect may occur in case of overdose.

Is there a recommended duration for using this Biotin supplement?

It depends on the severity of the health problem that needs to be addressed. Biotin supplements used for short periods can address problems like hair loss, brittle nails, and skin issues. To get the best results, the biotin consumption should be consistent.

This supplement can also be included in the daily healthcare routine and can support ongoing health.

Before adding this supplement, consult a healthcare professional to determine the recommended dosage for your health issue. Also, a professional can help you determine the longevity of the supplementation process.

Are there any side effects of Biotin?

Biotin is a safe supplement as long as it is consumed in the recommended dosages. Patients should not exceed the daily dose of this vitamin. Some patients might experience skin rashes, aches, or digestive upset, but these side effects are very rare and occur when the vitamin is taken in high doses.

Inform your doctor if you are taking biotin because it can interfere with certain lab work and can lead to false readings. This can be noticed in thyroid tests, vitamin D level testing, reproductive hormone tests, cardiac tests, and immunosuppressive drug tests.

Is only Biotin enough to address hair and nail problems?

What is the evidence for Biotin's impact on hair and nails?

Biotin (vitamin B7) is known for its positive effects on the overall metabolism of humans, and it is a well-known immune booster. However, the main purpose of implementing biotin in humans' daily diet is its positive effects on their hair, skin, and nails. Multiple studies confirm the positive effect of biotin on hair and nails.

A Review of the Use of Biotin for Hair Loss

Vitamin B7 has enormous commercial popularity regarding the benefits on hair and nail growth. This study focused on reviewing multiple studies that confirm the utility of biotin in healthy individuals.

The study was performed based on a PubMed search of all case reports and randomized clinical trials. The main goal was to find studies that focus on biotin, hair, alopecia, nails, and dermatology. There were 18 reported cases of biotin use for hair and nail changes. All patients had an underlying pathology for poor hair or nail growth.

All of the patients included in the study had improvement after receiving biotin. However, the time for improvement varied for each case. Eight patients had reported alopecia, and their problem was resolved after a couple of months of biotin supplementation. There were three cases of patients with uncombable hair syndrome that showed improvement in hair quality after a few months of treatment. One patient had a biotin deficiency, which was secondary after receiving a diet with a special amino acid formula. The same patients had dermatitis and alopecia and experienced hair growth after 2 months of receiving biotin supplementation.

Medication usage (valproic acid) can also lead to decreased levels of biotin and biotinidase and this study showed that the condition can be improved after 3 months of biotin supplementation. Also, there were three cases of brittle nail syndrome that showed improvement after receiving biotin.

The conclusion of this study is that regular usage of biotin can improve overall hair and nail growth in humans.

Brittle nails: response to daily biotin supplementation

This study is focused on the treatment of brittle nails in humans. It was performed in Switzerland and showed a 25% increase in nail plate thickness in patients with brittle nails, which was achieved by daily biotin supplementation.

The overall study lasted 6 months and revealed that 44 patients with brittle nail conditions had been prescribed biotin. Of these, 35 took biotin as daily supplementation, and 63% of them showed clinical improvement, while the rest did not experience any changes in their condition.

The results show that biotin is a good supplement for treating brittle nails in some patients. The efficacy of the treatment also depends on the severity of the case.
