What is Water for Injection?

Active Ingredients: Sterile Water

Sterile Water for Injection is used as a drug diluent in the aseptic preparation of parenteral solutions. It contains sterile, nonpyrogenic, distilled water in a single-dose container. Sterile Water should only be used as a fluid replacement after being appropriately prepared with additives or suitable medications.

Water is a vital component of all bodily tissues, constituting around 70% of total body weight. The typical daily requirement for the average adult ranges from two to three liters, with approximately 1.0 to 1.5 liters accounting for insensible water loss through perspiration and urine production.

Regulatory mechanisms play a crucial role in maintaining water balance. The distribution of water within the body relies largely on the concentration of electrolytes in various compartments, and sodium (Na+) plays a pivotal role in preserving physiological equilibrium.

Sterile Water for Injection is employed solely as a pharmaceutical aid to dilute or dissolve drugs for parenteral injection; the small volume it provides is unlikely to have a significant impact on fluid balance, except in some cases, including neonates or very small infants.

AdvaCare Pharma is a trusted global exporter of Water for Injection. This medication is manufactured in our GMP-certified facilities in China, India, and the USA. Our production facilities are regularly inspected to ensure they comply with WHO's standards, rules, and regulations.

Evidence reviews for sterile water injections

This study discusses the effectiveness of sterile water injections for pain relief during labor.

Water for injection is a cheap and relatively easy method of pain relief and one that could be widely available. Eleven studies were included in this review.

Sterile water injections at doses of 0.4ml and 2ml demonstrated significant benefits in alleviating general labor and back pains, particularly between 10 and 180 minutes post-injection. In comparison with saline injections, sterile water injections were more effective in reducing back pain during labor, particularly at the 0.4ml dose and within 10 to 120 minutes post-injection.

The conclusion of this study is that sterile water injections were generally found to provide benefits in managing general labor pain, back pain during labor, and overall satisfaction.

Sterile water injections for childbirth pain: An evidenced based guide to practice

This study discusses sterile water injections for managing low back pain in pregnant women. Almost 30% of women in labor have lower back pain and the main goal of this study is to provide an evidence guide for the clinical use of sterile water injections in lowering back pain in pregnant women.

This study included relevant publications from different scientific databases and a total of 12 studies were included. This paper gives recommendations about the clinical use of sterile water in terms of location of administration, injection techniques, number of injections, and the amount of sterile water. It also discusses the side effects.

The results revealed that different injection techniques provide good relieving lower back pain in pregnant women. The subcutaneous injection is more recommended than the intracutaneous because it is less painful.

The conclusion of this study is that four injections of sterile water can reduce lower back pain in women and different injection techniques can lead to pain relief. No side effects were observed in the mothers or indirectly in their fetuses from the use of sterile water injections.
