What is Risperidone used for?

It is used to treat symptoms associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability caused by autism spectrum disorder.

How should Risperidone Tablets be used?

This medication is intended to be taken orally.

What dose should be taken?

  • For bipolar, the usual initial dose for adults is 2-3mg per day. The dose may be adjusted if necessary. The maximum dosage is 6mg per day.
  • For schizophrenia, the usual initial dose for adults is 2mg per day. The dose may be adjusted if necessary. The maximum dosage is 16mg per day.
  • For children, the usual dose starts at 0.5mg and is adjusted as necessary. The maximum dosage is 6mg per day.

The dosage is based on medical condition, response to treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

Side Effects

As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Risperidone Tablets.

Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:

  • nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, or heartburn
  • dry mouth or increased saliva
  • weight gain

Precautions
