What is Rifampicin?
Active Ingredients: Rifampicin
Rifampicin Capsules are an antibiotic drug used to treat latent and active tuberculosis disease (TB) and other mycobacterial infections like leprosy and legionnaires disease. This medicine is also used as a combination therapy with fusidic acid against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Rifampicin is also indicated to treat meningitis in people who carry the bacteria but are not sick with the disease.
Rifampicin (Rifampin) is classified as a rifamycin with antitubercular and leprostatic properties. It is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum macrocyclic antibiotic. The active ingredient works by inhibiting DNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity in most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is typically used against specifically Mycobacterium tuberculosis due to the emergence of resistant bacteria.
