Ofloxacin Tablets are an antibiotic drug used to treat different bacterial infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, urinary tract infections, prostatitis, plague, and certain types of infectious diarrhea. It is used in the treatment of infections of the urinary tract, skin, eyes, ears, joints, abdomen, and prostate.

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It inhibits a bacterial enzyme involved in repairing and replicating the genetic material (DNA) of bacteria.

How should Ofloxacin Tablets be used?

This medication is intended to be taken orally.

What dose should be taken?

  • For uncomplicated UTI due to E. coli or K. pneumoniae, the usual dose is 200mg, taken every 12 hours for 3 days.
  • For other uncomplicated UTIs, the usual dose is 200mg, taken every 12 hours for 7 days.
  • For complicated UTIs, the usual dose is 200mg, taken every 12 hours for 10 days.
  • For skin/skin structure infections and community-acquired pneumonia, the usual dose is 400mg, taken every 12 hours. The duration of treatment is 10 days.
  • For pelvic inflammatory disease, the usual dose is 400mg, taken every 12 hours. The duration of treatment is 10-14 days.

The dosage is based on medical condition, response to treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

Side Effects

As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Ofloxacin Tablets.
