What is Nitrofurantoin?

Nitrofurantoin Capsules are an antibiotic drug used to treat and prevent certain types of urinary tract infections (UTIs) that are caused by susceptible bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Enterococcus, Klebsiella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus saprophyticus. This drug may be prescribed to treat pyelitis.
As with all antibiotics, Nitrofurantoin will not work against viral infections like the common cold or flu.
Nitrofurantoin is classified as a nitrofuran antibiotic. It works by disrupting essential intracellular components of the bacteria.

Uses
What is Nitrofurantoin used for?
It's used to treat and prevent certain types of urinary tract infections (UTIs).
How should Nitrofurantoin Capsules be used?
This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
For preventing UTIs, the usual dose is 50-100mg, taken at bedtime.
For treating UTIs, the usual dose is 50-100mg, taken every 6 hours.
The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight.
Side Effects
