What is Kanamycin Sulfate?
Active Ingredients: Kanamycin Sulfate
Kanamycin Sulfate for Injection is used as an initial, short-term therapy for certain bacterial infections such as tuberculous of the lungs, sepsis, meningitis, and pneumonia. It is indicated for bacterial infections in the abdomen, biliary tract, urinary tract, skin or soft tissues, joints, or bones.
Kanamycin is classified as an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It works by interfering with protein synthesis within the bacteria cell. It is effective against strains of bacteria such as E. coli, Proteus species (both indole-positive and indole-negative), Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella pneumonia, Serratia marcescens and Acinetobacter species. Kanamycin is also an antidiarrheal and an anti-infective agent.

What is Kanamycin Sulfate used for?
It is used for the short-term treatment of serious bacterial infections, such as:

How is Kanamycin Sulfate for Injection used?
This medication is manufactured as a powder, which is packaged in a vial. As an injectable form, it is to be given directly into a vein (IV) or muscle (IM). Reconstituted solutions should be used immediately.
What dose should be given?
For intramuscular route, the usual dose for adults and children is 7.5mg/kg for 12 hours. If high blood levels are continuously desired, 15mg/kg may be given in equally split doses every 6 or 8 hours.
For intravenous administration, the usual dose for adults and children should not exceed 15mg/kg per day.
The exact dosage is based on the severity of the infections, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage.
Side Effects
