Cyproheptadine HCl Syrup is an antihistamine drug used to treat allergy-related symptoms, such as watery eyes, runny nose, itchy eyes and nose, sneezing, and mild hives. It is also used to treat conditions like eczema, vasomotor rhinitis, conjunctivitis, cold urticaria, or skin reactions to insect stings.
Cyproheptadine may be prescribed to prevent certain types of headaches, like migraines, or to relieve motion sickness.

Uses
What is Cyproheptadine used for?
It is used to treat the symptoms of allergies, such as watery eyes, runny nose, and sneezing. It is also used to treat mild hives and conditions like eczema, seasonal and chronic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, cold urticaria, or skin reactions to insect stings.
Cyproheptadine is sometimes used in the treatment of conditions like:
- headaches, such as migraines
- anorexia nervosa
- serotonin syndrome (as an adjunct)
How should Cyproheptadine Syrup be used?
This medication is manufactured as a liquid to be taken orally. Cyproheptadine Syrup can be taken by mouth before or after meals as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 3 times a day.
What dose should be taken?
For allergic rhinitis or urticaria, the usual dose is as follows:
- Adults: 4mg, taken twice a day.
- Children, 2-6 years old: 2mg, taken every 8-12 hours. The maximum dosage is 12mg per day.
- Children, 7-14 years old: 4mg, taken every 8-12 hours. The maximum dosage is 16mg per day.
This medication is not approved for children under 2 years old.
Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the advisable dosage. The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Cyproheptadine HCl Syrup.
