Cefoperazone Sodium for Injection is an antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by certain strains of bacteria. This medication is typically used to reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria. Because of this, it should only be used to treat infections that have been proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

Cefoperazone Sodium is a penicillin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting mucopeptide biosynthesis. This antibiotic is effective against infections caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridia, Actinomyces bovis, Streptobacillus moniliformis, Listeria monocytogenes, and Leptospira.

Cefoperazone Sodium for Injection is manufactured as a powder for reconstitution. It is intended to be administered intravenously or intramuscularly.

What is Cefoperazone Sodium used for?

It is used to treat bacterial infections that are caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is used to treat infections such as:

  • respiratory tract infections
  • intra-abdominal infections (including peritonitis)
  • skin and skin structure infections
  • bacterial septicemia
  • female genital tract infections (including pelvic inflammatory disease and endometritis)
  • urinary tract infections

How is Cefoperazone Sodium for Injection used?

This medication is manufactured as a powder, which is packaged in a vial. It is to be administered into a vein or muscle after reconstitution.

What dose should be given?

The usual dose for adults is 2-4g, divided into equal doses and given every 12 hours. Concentrations of 2mg/ml and 50mg/ml are recommended for intravenous treatment.

For infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, the duration of treatment should last at least 10 days.

Recommendations of dosage are based on the severity of the infections, age, sex, and body weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Side Effects
