What is Sulpiride?
Active Ingredients: Sulpiride
Sulpiride Capsules are an atypical antipsychotic drug that is used to treat psychosis and symptoms associated with schizophrenia. It may be used alone or in combination with other medications. This medication may be used in lower dosages for the treatment of anxiety and major depressive disorder.
Sulpiride is sometimes referred to as a major tranquilizer. It works by balancing the chemical substances in the brain, specifically by blocking dopamine receptors.

Uses
What is Sulpiride used for?
It is used to treat psychosis and schizophrenia. It may be used at lower doses to treat anxiety and major depressive disorder.
How are Sulpiride Capsules used?
This medication is manufactured to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
- For schizophrenia with predominantly positive symptoms, the usual starting dose is 400mg, taken twice per day. Titrate the dose, as needed. The lowest effective dose should be administered. The maximum dose ranges from 1600-2400mg, depending on the country.
- For schizophrenia with predominantly negative symptoms, the usual starting dose is 400mg, taken twice per day. After the initial therapy, the dosage can be decreased to 400-600mg per day, divided into equal doses.
- For schizophrenia with mixed symptoms, the usual dose is 400-600mg, taken twice per day.
- For anxiety, the usual dose is 50-300mg, divided into 1-3 doses per day. The duration of treatment is about 4 weeks.
- For depression, the usual dose is 50-150mg, divided into 1-3 doses per day. The dosage should gradually be increased to 150-300mg per day.
The dosage is based on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Sulpiride Capsules.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- drowsiness
- restlessness
- constipation
- dry mouth
- hyperprolactinemia
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- fever
- extrapyramidal symptoms
- confusion
- fast heartbeat
- sweating
- coma

Precautions
Do NOT use Sulpiride Capsules if:
- You are allergic to Sulpiride.
- You have acute porphyria.
- You have a bone-marrow disorder.
- You have a growth on the adrenal gland called a pheochromocytoma.
- You have hormone-dependent breast cancer.
- You have liver or kidney problems.
- You have heart problems or high blood pressure.
- You have a history of lung disease or breathing difficulties.
- You have any difficulties in passing urine.
