What is Artesunate?
Active Ingredients: Artesunate
Artesunate Oral Suspension is used for the treatment of uncomplicated cases of malaria. It is an antimalarial agent and is a water-soluble hemisuccinate derivative of dihydroartemisinin. The active ingredient is effective against malaria infection caused by a Chloroquine-resistant strain of Plasmodium falciparum.
Artesunate Oral Suspension is manufactured and used for killing the erythrocytic stage of Plasmodium asexual form.

Uses
What is Artesunate used for?
It is used to treat malaria caused by chloroquine-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum.
How is Artesunate Oral Suspension used?
This medication is manufactured as a liquid to be taken orally. It should be stored tightly sealed in a cool, dark location.
What dose should be taken?
For uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria, the usual loading dose is 100-200mg, then 100mg per day for 2-4 days.
Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Artesunate Oral Suspension.
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- cardiotoxicity (for high doses)
- neurotoxicity
- fever
- skin rash

Precautions
Do NOT use Artesunate Oral Suspension if: • You are hypersensitive to artesunate or any of the other ingredients.
Possible interactions with Artesunate may occur if you are taking this medicine in combination with amodiaquine, or with efavirenz. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking before your treatment with Artesunate Oral Suspension.
There is little evidence with regard to the use of Artesunate Oral Suspension during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so consult a doctor or healthcare professional before taking this medicine.
