What is Dapsone?
Active Ingredients: Dapsone
Dapsone Tablets are a drug used to treat skin issues like dermatitis herpetiformis, pyoderma gangrenosum, Sweet's syndrome, and vasculitis. This medication is also used to treat suspected cases of leprosy (Hansen's disease). It is typically prescribed with other medications to treat leprosy.
Dapsone is classified in the family of medicines called sulfones. It also works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Dapsone also displays anti-infective and anti-inflammatory properties.

Uses
What is Dapsone used for?
It is used to treat leprosy and skin infections.
How should Dapsone Tablets be used?
This medication is intended to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
- For dermatitis herpetiformis, the usual dose is 50mg per day, building up to 300mg or the minimum effective dose.
- For leprosy, the usual dose is 100mg per day, taken with other anti-leprosy medications.
- For tuberculoid or lepromatous disease, the usual dose is 100mg per day, taken with rifampin.
The dosage is based on medical condition, response to treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Dapsone Tablets.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting
- loss of appetite
- blurry vision
Serious side effects may include:
- difficulty breathing
- unusual tiredness
- headache
- muscle weakness
- signs of bone marrow suppression
- signs of liver problems
- signs of an infection

Precautions
Do NOT use Dapsone Tablets if:
