What is Cefoperazone + Sulbactam?

Cefoperazone Sodium + Sulbactam Sodium for Injection is a combination antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is indicated in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, septicemia, and other infections.
The combination of Cefoperazone Sodium + Sulbactam Sodium displays a broad spectrum of activity.
Cefoperazone Sodium is classified as a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. This antibiotic is effective in treating Pseudomonas bacterial infections, which are resistant to most cephalosporin antibiotics. It is not effective against infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It helps increase the action of Cefoperazone. Sulbactam shows some antibacterial activity when administered alone, as well.

This medication is manufactured as a powder, which is packaged in a vial. It is to be administered into a vein or muscle after reconstitution.
What dose should be given?
The usual dose for adults is 2-4g per day, divided into equal doses and given IV or IM every 12 hours.
